Bird brain

A theme in a lot of my work has been using the creation process as a coping mechanism. For a while, from around 2010 until… well, I still do it today - I make art centered around myself. 

For a couple of years, potentially as a form of self-harm I created art where I was being hurt, I was confused, I was the subject matter, and I wasn’t having a good time. 

I felt like a fool, and I made myself the fool. 

I began a series of drawings around this time of myself as a bird - like a pigeon or a chicken - as a way to symbolize my foolishness—just a dumb, bird brain.

Someone going through a transformation they can’t quite understand, but one that isn’t necessarily going to improve their life. 

Medium-wise, I really fell into ink, drawing, and how lines communicate emotions. 

I would be doing a disservice if I did not use the opportunity to just say BIRD PERSON ~ Birdperson, briefly also known as Phoenixperson, is a friend of Rick Sanchez. He has known Rick for a long time, and has seemingly known Morty since he was a baby, as revealed in the episode "Get Schwifty".
